SPRITE AND NYMPH –’99

“what,” asked sprite to nymph one afternoon,
“is the gift that you would like the best?”
“it’s the color of the ring around a bright, full moon,
“on a night that’s somehow darker than the rest.”

“but wait,” said sprite to nymph, upset,
“a color isn’t something one can bear!”
“that’s true,” said nymph with no regret,
“but it’s something you can easily share.”

“come on,” said sprite to nymph at that,
“you can’t give a gift you cannot buy!”
“when was the last time you stopped and sat
and looked up,” asked nymph, “to the sky?”

“the color of the sky,” said nymph to sprite,
“is a gift that can never be took,
but it’s there whenever you look to the night,
the gift is in knowing to look.”
